4/28/21 – Association News

This is just a reminder that the spring cleaning for lake members is scheduled for April 24 and 25. You may take your brush and tree trunks (cut to 4-foot lengths or less) from your lake property to the Martin property for disposal. There will also be multiple dumpsters at the patrol office, across the street from the Marina 27 restaurant, for disposal of items from your clean-up effort. A list of prohibited items can be obtained from the Association office.

New Officers of the Board of Directors were elected at the April Board meeting. Mr. Don Leven (President), Mr. Jeff Moore (Vice President), Mr. Chris Lang (Secretary) and Mr. Ben Goforth (Sergeant-at-Arms) were all re-elected to their respective Officer positions. Mr. Jeff Clemow was elected as the new Treasurer of the Association. Congratulations to them, as well as Mr. Perry Anderson (District 2), Mr. Patrick Gude (District 10), Ms. Cynthia Drake (District 18), Mr. John Betts (District 22) and Mr. Chris Ridler (District 32). We are grateful for all members of the Board of Directors who donate their time and talent to help guide this Association through the present, as well as consider the future of the lake.

One of the focuses that the Board of Directors will have this year is reviewing and revising several of the current rules and regulations. There are boat rules that have become outdated through the evolution of the manufacturing process, as well as new rules are needed to address matters not currently covered by the rules that have been brought to the attention of the Association. The Rules Committee and Board have a process to follow whenever rules are changed or added. If you have any questions or concerns about a particular rule, please contact your District Director or me.

Please remember that the deadline for purchasing and installing boat stickers for 2021 is May 1st. Mr. Ron DesCombes is already out on the lake patrolling periodically. Several seasonal employees have already been hired to help during the summer months in the oversight of the safety of the lake, which includes the reasonable enforcement of the lake rules. I trust all of us will make a commitment to be courteous to one another, safe in the operation of water vessels and have an awesome and fun summer at the lake.

There is one last issue that needs to be addressed and is not directed towards anyone at any specific time. Simply put, the Association will not respond via social media or local publications about complaints, perceived problems, or allegations against or involving the Association. Instead, the Association’s door is wide open, and we are readily available to discuss any issue(s) a member may have with respect to actions or inactions taken by the Association. The outcome of the meeting may be that we agree to disagree, but it will be handled in a professional and courteous manner. My philosophy is – life is much too short to not sit down with one another and discuss the issues at hand. In my previous professional life, I found that all too often people either did not listen to one another or did not understand what the other was trying to say. If communication by the Association to the members ever becomes appropriate regarding an issue, you will receive a group email or text from the Association, as well as being posted on the Association website.

We are available to call at 816.578.4272 if you have any questions or concerns. I am sincere when I say that I am available just about any time at 913.305.7181 or email me at haroldmitts@lakelotawana.net. Enjoy each day and always be safe! Harold
