Fisheries Committee Report 2024

There are now 3,500 happy and healthy “new” fish in our lake!  On October 29, Harrison Fish Hatchery from Hurdland, Missouri brought 1,000 – 6” to 8” Yellow Perch to Lake Lotawana.  The Fisheries Committee members know that many fishermen love to catch this species.  Our community thanks the Yacht Club for allowing us to utilize their boat ramp to back the large “fish” trucks down to the water.

A few hours later KEO Fish Hatchery from Arkansas brought 2,500 6” to 8” Hybrid Stripers.  Lake Lotawana has hundreds of thousands of gizzard shad that must be reduced in numbers.  These Hybrid’s will help do that.  We encourage everyone that catches the Hybrid’s or Walleye (placed in the lake to eat the shad) to enjoy the catch but return them to the lake to do their job!

The Fisheries Committee members want to thank Spencer Brackman for opening and closing the ramp gate at the Yacht Club and for also assisting with the hatchery employees in placing the fish in the lake.
