7/24/21 – Association News

Hello from your Association team. It is hard to believe that July is almost behind us, and school is right around the corner for many of you. Lotawana Days will be happening as this newspaper article is being circulated and it most assuredly should be another fantastic couple of days here at the lake!

There are a couple of topics that warrant our attention. The first is the chatter about water in several boat gas tanks and the source possibly being the marina fueling facility. This past weekend I personally experienced a water and fuel issue in our pontoon, but I have not filled up at the marina this year. As you know the marina fueling station is brand new. Moreover, there are several water monitoring systems in place to check the bulk tank for water in the fuel. One of these is the fuel filter. This filter is designed to absorb water that passes through it and will clog if a designated amount of water is caught. If clogged obviously no fuel will flow to the gas pump and the filter will obviously need to be replaced. Moore Oil also checks for water each time the tank is refilled, which is approximately twice a week during the summer months. The moral of the story is there may be water issues in boat tanks, but the new gas facility is an unlikely source. As always, if you have any information that is contrary to what is stated above by all means contact the office as soon as practical. Please know that we are doing all we can do to make sure that only quality fuel is sold at the marina.

Another issue to tackle is decency and respect of others while at or on the lake. This not only encompasses the reasonable volume level when playing music, whether from a boat, dock or your own private patio, but also the time during which the music is played. Please be considerate of others. On another note, indecent and lude behavior will not be tolerated while on the lake. I doubt many of us want to adopt the Lake of the Ozarks version of party cove here at Lake Lotawana. The specific situation that occurred several weeks ago is several people were partying during a weekday on a pontoon and failed to remain appropriately clothed. A newer family to the lake happened to have their family and young son on their boat and came upon the “party pontoon”. Imagine the embarrassment of trying to explain the situation to your young son, let alone your invited relatives. Again, please just remember to be considerate of others while enjoying the lake, even during the week when it seems like you have the lake to yourself. Finally, if you do happen to encounter one of these situations to please immediately contact the water patrol at 816.564.8250.

I also want to remind everyone that if you want wants to construct anything or alter the parkway and pathway in any way you need to submit a construction permit that must be approved by either the Association office or the Lake Improvement Board, depending upon the specific facts and circumstances of the permit. Please do so before any work is performed.  We have had several instances of people being required to tear out work that was performed without prior approval, not to mention being issued points for the unpermitted work.

Finally, as many of you know Scott Johnson is the Association Inspector. Along with his other many duties he inspects boats when necessary. Ron DesCombes also assists Scott in this endeavor. Please know that these gentlemen are attending to other matters and are not always readily available. Thus, please email Scott at scottjohnson@lakelotawana.net to schedule a time to have your boat inspected, preferably at least a day or two in advance.

Thanks to all of you for your cooperation and efforts to make this lake the best place to live, visit and most importantly, enjoy! Please call us at 816.578.4272 if you have any questions or concerns. I am available just about any time at 913.305.7181 or email me at haroldmitts@lakelotawana.net. Thanks for being safe! Harold
