12/15/21 – Association News

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to each of you from the entire Lake Association staff!

It is so remarkable to think that 2021 will soon be behind us. Conversely, what pleasure it is to look back upon the great memories we created at the Pond this year; whether it be during the Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July Holiday, Labor Day Weekend or simply enjoying the summer during the weekdays when the lake was uncrowded. Lake Lotawana is such a great place!

We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the sacrifices and service of our Armed Forces, and for their dedication to keeping our Country great! We are so lucky to live in the United States of America; even on the days that it seems less than perfect.

As in past years, the fish committee would appreciate receiving your Christmas tree after the Holiday for improving the fish habitat at the lake. Please place your tree over the guardrail at the spillway turn-around. Please have your tree discarded at this location no later than January 8, 2022.

There may be some misconception regarding the operations crew cleaning out the culverts and roadside ditches around the lake. The reason for doing so is to improve the flow of water in those ditches and culverts to minimize water backing up in those areas. This process is for the natural accumulation of leaves during the fall. It is not meant to be a method for disposal by members of their own leaves. It is also a good time to remind members that the Martin Property is available to deposit their leaves, branches and other small trunks of trees.   Your cooperation in this regard is very much appreciated.

Another reminder for members is to please make sure your contact information is up to date at the Association office. Many times we find members’ phone numbers and email addresses are not correct in our database. This information is so important for the timely and necessary communication with members on a variety of topics.

As reported in the last article, the Association is hiring several additional employees to bolster its workforce. If you know anyone who might be interested, please have her or him contact the office for more details.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you goes out to each of you for your patience, understanding and unwavering support during this past year. As you know, this year was the first one for several of us to experience an entire annual cycle of the ins and outs of building upon the foundation that was left us here at the lake. I know all of us at the office are excited about 2022; understanding to leave alone what is working great yet tweaking those things that will solidify Lake Lotawana as the premier lake in the region. We will accomplish those goals together! We have no doubt about it.

816.578.4272 is the office number so if we can help in any way let us know. If necessary, I can be reached at 913.305.7181 or email me at haroldmitts@lakelotawana.net. As we look back upon 2021 and forward to 2022 thanks for being safe! Harold
