Happy New Year! A special thanks goes out again this year to the operations crew for spending another New Year’s early morning trying their best to remove snow and ice build-up from the roads. This storm was particularly troublesome to keep the roads cleared. Thank you for driving safely during inclement weather.

Our thoughts go out to one of our Board of Directors and his family for enduring the total loss of their home located in I block. It is even more unfortunate since they had barely completed the process of building the house. I spoke with the Board Member while the fire department was still on the scene and while he was devastated, he exhibited a resilience and determination to rebuild. That is the Lotawana spirit. A very similar resilience and determination was shown by our local fire department. Even with the house fully engulfed in flames, Chief Large and many adjoining fire departments were able to keep the fire from spreading to the two adjoining houses. It sure makes the 5-foot set-back rule make sense when events such as this occur.

For those of you that may be wondering about the incident at Marina 27 on January 4th, the fire department was called to the restaurant in the early morning hours because of smoke being detected on the interior of the building. Thankfully the smoke resulted from an overheated blower motor in an air handling unit. Once again, the fire department was quick to respond.

Otherwise, things are pretty quiet around the lake, except for both the office and operations staff who continue to be busy making sure we are ready for the Spring, Summer and Fall months ahead.
